But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend. So Gideon, and the hundred men that were with him, came unto the outside of the camp in the beginning of the middle watch; and they had but newly set the watch: and they blew the trumpets, and brake the pitchers that were in their hands. But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.

And Abimelech rose up, and all the people that were with him, by night, and they laid wait against Shechem in four companies. And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines. And the Spirit of the LORD began to move him at times in the camp of Dan between Zorah and Eshtaol. And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin. But his wife said unto him, If the LORD were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt offering and a meat offering at our hands, neither would he have shewed us all these things, nor would as at this time have told us such things as these.

And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails. And Barak said unto her, If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go. And the LORD God of Israel delivered Sihon and all his people into the hand of Israel, and they smote them: so Israel possessed all the land of the Amorites, the inhabitants of that country. And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way. And he said unto Jether his firstborn, Up, and slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he was yet a youth. Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel unto the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them.
