Now there were men lying in wait, abiding with her in the chamber. And they passed thence unto mount Ephraim, and came unto the house of Micah. Neither did Zebulun drive out the inhabitants of Kitron, nor the inhabitants of Nahalol; but the Canaanites dwelt among them, and became tributaries. And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time. And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate. And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them out of the hands of all their enemies on every side: Neither shewed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, namely, Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shewed unto Israel.

And Jephthah said unto the elders of Gilead, If ye bring me home again to fight against the children of Ammon, and the LORD deliver them before me, shall I be your head? And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD, and served Baalim: And they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger. And Abimelech chased him, and he fled before him, and many were overthrown and wounded, even unto the entering of the gate. And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.
