And it was so, when Gideon heard the telling of the dream, and the interpretation thereof, that he worshipped, and returned into the host of Israel, and said, Arise; for the LORD hath delivered into your hand the host of Midian. And the land had rest forty years. And Othniel the son of Kenaz died. And the LORD smote Benjamin before Israel: and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty and five thousand and an hundred men: all these drew the sword. And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and said, There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day.
But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel. Then said Micah, Now know I that the LORD will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to my priest. And when Zebul the ruler of the city heard the words of Gaal the son of Ebed, his anger was kindled. And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabeshgilead: and yet so they sufficed them not.
