And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valour. And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel. And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? And what is stronger than a lion? and he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle. And they slew of Moab at that time about ten thousand men, all lusty, and all men of valour; and there escaped not a man.
And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man. Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them deliver you in the time of your tribulation. But when the flame began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them, and, behold, the flame of the city ascended up to heaven. And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there. And the house of Joseph sent to descry Bethel. (Now the name of the city before was Luz.) And the spies saw a man come forth out of the city, and they said unto him, Shew us, we pray thee, the entrance into the city, and we will shew thee mercy.
And Samson said unto her, If they bind me with seven green withs that were never dried, then shall I be weak, and be as another man. And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havothjair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead. They that are delivered from the noise of archers in the places of drawing water, there shall they rehearse the righteous acts of the LORD, even the righteous acts toward the inhabitants of his villages in Israel: then shall the people of the LORD go down to the gates.
