And they put away the strange gods from among them, and served the LORD: and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel. And the weight of the golden earrings that he requested was a thousand and seven hundred shekels of gold; beside ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that was on the kings of Midian, and beside the chains that were about their camels’ necks. And the man went into the land of the Hittites, and built a city, and called the name thereof Luz: which is the name thereof unto this day. And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD. So God subdued on that day Jabin the king of Canaan before the children of Israel.
So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man. And the children of Israel did evil again in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD strengthened Eglon the king of Moab against Israel, because they had done evil in the sight of the LORD. And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.
